Service Overview

The adoption of the My Number card (equivalent to “Social Security Number”) among citizens is progressing, and its applications are expanding. The card’s IC chip includes functions such as electronic certificates, which can be utilized by financial institutions and other private sector entities. The government supports the use of My Number cards by municipalities and private businesses through public personal authentication services and the My Number Portal API, which allows online administrative procedures and information retrieval from private web services.

As of May 2023, a new service providing the latest user information via public personal authentication has also been launched. The information retrievable via the My Number Portal API spans health, medical, tax, income, account information, pensions, child-rearing, and household information, with plans to expand the types of information available.

Financial institutions have been working on compliance with regulations under the Account Registration Act and Account Management Act. Beyond these efforts, there is an expectation for leveraging My Number cards to accelerate DX initiatives, such as account opening, loan applications, and address changes.
