“3D Brain” App Japanese version available for download

-With cooperation of NTT DATA INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT CONSULTING, Inc. in Japanese translation-

NTT DATA INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT CONSULTING, Inc.

NTT DATA INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT CONSULTING, Inc. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Yasushi Sasaki, hereinafter “NTT DATA INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT CONSULTING”) has provided a Japanese translation of the “3D Brain” developed and offered by the DNA Learning Center at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (New York, USA). The “3D Brain” is a smartphone and tablet application for learning human brain anatomy and function.
“3D Brain” displays a map of the human brain classified into 29 structures in three-dimensional space. Using a touch screen to rotate and zoom around, it allows users to learn complex brain anatomy and function visually. Each detailed structure comes with information on associated functions and cognitive disorders, with references and links to the research.
The free classic version is compatible with iOS, Androids, Windows platforms. iOS version includes the option for in-app purchase of and HQ version. Japanese translation for iOS classic and HQ versions will be available from May 14, 2015, with Android and Windows versions in development.

【Background】

Recent advances in neuroimaging technologies have enabled us to visualize the human brain and its functions, leading to discoveries of the mechanisms underlying our cognition, behavior, memory, thinking, emotion, and intention.[1] Further, transdisciplinary research across fields as diverse as economics, sociology and psychology have started to utilize neuroscientific knowledge, offering new perspectives for business and industry. To meet this global trend, NTT DATA INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT CONSULTING conducts investigations and data analysis, and provides consultation and project management services on neuroinnovative issues.[2]

Today, NTT DATA INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT CONSULTING announces that a new smartphone and device application, “3D Brain” Japanese version, is now available for free download. “3D Brain” was developed by the DNA Learning Center at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) (New York, USA),[3] with the Japanese translation performed by NTT DATA INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT CONSULTING. The app allows users to learn about the human brain visually using an interactive map in three-dimension (3D) space. “3D Brain” has attracted public attention for its beautiful graphics that portray a high degree of accuracy and smooth operability. Since the release of the original English version in 2009, it has been downloaded more than 2.5 million times worldwide, with many requests for a Japanese version. NTT DATA INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT CONSULTING therefore collaborated with the DNA Learning Center, CSHL, to translate the graphics and accompanying texts into Japanese, as a part of the comprehensive approach to provide information and promote neuroinnovative business in Japan.

  • ○ Overview
"3D Brain" was developed by the DNA Learning Center at CSHL as a part of their online resource, Genes to Cognition Online.[4] "3D Brain" features a map of the human brain classified into 29 structures, including the amygdala, basal ganglia and hippocampus, in 3D space. The app allows users to learn complex brain anatomy and function visually by using the touch screen to rotate and zoom around. Each detailed structure comes with labels and information on the associated functions, cognitive disorders, and effect of damage by referring to up-to-date research and case studies (including links to over 500 research publications). All structures, labels and app content are available in either English or Japanese. “3D Brain” is ideal for students, researchers, educators, entrepreneurs and the general public.
The English version of the app is compatible with iPhone、Android、and Windows platforms and is available for free download from app stores. An iOS version with a free Japanese translation and option for in-app purchase of a HQ version will be available from May 14, 2015, with Android and Windows versions in development.
The app must be downloaded through iTunes or over wifi. A data communication fee will be charged by your service provider when accessing external links.
