NTT DATA INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT CONSULTING, Inc.(HQ : Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, CEO : Shigeki Yamaguchi, hereinafter referred to as ”NTTDIOMC”) serves as the secretariat for the Social Innovation Alliance Japan Denmark (SIA; Co-representatives : Junichi Tanaka, Chairman of Ulula Inc. and Toshio Kawamoto, Associate Partner of NTTDIOMC). Together with Digital Hub Denmark (DHD), a key player in Denmark's digital ecosystem, we will launch a project aimed at promoting transformation through backcasting from the ideal state of a digital society.

[Key Points]

  • Denmark consistently ranks among the top countries in the world for happiness, sustainability, and international competitiveness, successfully creating an ideal digital society.
  • Through the collaboration between SIA and DHD, we can apply the practical methods used in Denmark's ideal digital society to Japanese companies and public organizations, support promotion of transformation that traditional approaches could not achieve.
  • Specifically, this includes backcasting from the ideal state, providing support for digital transformation along the customer journey, and matching advanced solutions necessary for transformation.
  • Additionally, by incorporating the knowledge and practices of Denmark, which has ranked first in the World E-Government Rankings for four consecutive times, we aim to contribute to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' initiative for "Local Government Front Yard Reform," achieving efficient and user-friendly administrative services.

Background

To address challenges such as strengthening Japan's international competitiveness and responding to the rapid advancement of a declining birthrate and aging population, our company is promoting collaboration and co-creation with Denmark--an exceptionally high-performing country that ranks first in the world for e-government *1, first in the World Digital Competitiveness Ranking *2, second in the world for happiness *3, and third among 157 member countries in achieving the SDGs. In December 2023, we established the international consortium "Social Innovation Alliance Japan Denmark (SIA)."

Since its inception, SIA has been working to apply the practical methods Denmark has implemented to create an ideal digital society, supporting strategic planning and execution for promoting digital transformation (DX) in Japan. To further strengthen these efforts, we have decided to collaborate with Digital Hub Denmark (DHD), which leads the development of Denmark's digital ecosystem.

Digital Hub Denmark(DHD)

DHD is a public-private partnership involving the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Ministry of Higher Education and Science Denmark, Confederation of Danish Industry, Danish Chamber of Commerce, and The Danish Industry Foundation.

Aiming to maintain Denmark's status as the world's leading digital nation, DHD connects the Danish government, businesses, talent, and technology to support Denmark's digital ecosystem and serves as a platform for introducing it internationally.

What can be achieved by the collaboration with DHD

Backcasting from the Ideal State

By accurately understanding the high-level digital transformations that Denmark has achieved in well-being, sustainability, and innovation, as well as the processes and approaches that led to those outcomes, organizations can envision their own ideal state and promote transformation within their company, organization, or community.

Support Aligned with the Customer Journey

SIA collaborates with Danish companies and organizations to provide extensive support for municipalities and businesses in Japan looking to promote digital transformation. DHD possesses knowledge and content regarding the ideal state and methods of Danish-style digital transformation. By combining the expertise, channels, and content from both SIA and DHD, we can create a framework for supporting customers in their digital transformation journey--not just through isolated visits, but by engaging at various touchpoints before and after, in alignment with the customer journey.

Matching Advanced Solutions Necessary for Transformation

We can facilitate matching between solution companies, such as startups in Denmark focused on Govtech, Climatetech, and Healthtech, and those in need of transformative solutions to assist in driving change.

Contribution to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' "Front Yard Reform"

Denmark ranks first in the World E-Government Rankings and has achieved a seamless experience design using digital IDs, efficient and convenient services through data integration, and a digital completion of administrative procedures that eliminates the need to visit, write, or wait. In contrast, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' "Front Yard Reform" aims to diversify and enhance interactions with residents (thorough online applications, remote consultations, and advance reservations for in-person visits), promote a no-waiting, no-confusion, no-writing approach, and advance one-stop services while driving data-driven administrative management. This initiative aligns well with the Danish model of digital transformation, which simultaneously enhances residents' well-being and improves the efficiency of administrative organizations.

Future Plans

  1. We are planning a pilot project (joint on-site inspection tour) in collaboration with SIA and DHD, aiming to implement it within the fiscal year 2024. If you are interested in participating in the on-site tour, please feel free to contact us.
  2. In addition to the joint on-site inspection tour, we plan to expand various collaborations with DHD in the future.
